PURPOSE OF THIS POLICY

The purpose of this policy is to assist the university community in understanding the statutory duty to take an oath of allegiance upon employment.

APPLICATION OF THIS POLICY

This policy applies to all academic faculty members and all administrative professionals.

POLICY STATEMENT

Under a Colorado law enacted in 1969, the following oath of allegiance is required of all faculty members and all administrative professionals:

“I solemnly (swear) (affirm) that I will uphold the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Colorado, and I will faithfully perform the duties of the position upon which I am about to enter.”

This oath must be signed by the employee. Human Resources provides the appropriate form on its website. HR Liaisons are responsible for including the oath in onboarding procedures for faculty and administrative professional staff and graduate assistants.
